Tove Jansson (1914–2001) dreamed of becoming a lighthouse keeper and became an internationally renowned writer, painter, illustrator, and comic book artist. She made her debut as a newspaper graphic artist in 1928, when she was just under 14 years old. She studied painting in Stockholm, Helsinki, and Paris. She first participated in an exhibition in 1933, and published her first book with her own illustrations. In the 1940s, she began writing and publishing works in various periodicals. In the autumn of 1945, the first part of the Moomin saga, "Little Trolls and the Great Flood," was published. After two subsequent novels, "The Comet over Moominvalley" (1946) and "In Moominvalley" (1948), the writer gained enormous popularity, and her characters became permanent fixtures in the homes and hearts of readers.
