Young Naturalists. In the Mountains

The series introduces children to the natural world, presenting fascinating facts about the lives of animals and plants. In the book In the mountains Readers will experience nature in the Polish mountains throughout the entire calendar year. They will journey with Kama the bear and her cubs from early spring, when she awakens from her winter sleep, until late autumn, when she tries to eat as much as possible to prepare for the next hibernation. They will learn how bears obtain food, how they teach their cubs independence, and what dangers await them. They will learn about the appearance and habits of other animals inhabiting the mountain peaks, meadows, and forests: wolves, lynxes, martens, marmots, chamois, goldcrests, eagle owls, and many others. They will observe a dipper diving into a rushing stream and birds preparing for their autumn migrations. Thanks to beautiful, realistic illustrations, they will see an eagle's nest on an inaccessible rocky outcrop, mountain meadows carpeted with flowers, and a swollen mountain stream. They will learn what the layered arrangement of plants looks like, what hala and halny are, how capercaillies behave during courtship and where their name comes from.
