This is the small agritourism farm of Basia and Piotr Listek. Their children, Tymek, Maja, and Franek, Grandma Hela, and Mr. Józek, help with the daily work in the fields and around the yard. There are also animals: a horse, a cow, sheep, pigs, turkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, a dog, Misiek, and two cats. The family is often visited by Mrs. Malinowska, who rides everywhere on her bike, and her granddaughter, Ola. The owner of the organic shop comes to buy sweet honey, pumpkin, and other products, and twice a year, around New Year's Eve and for the May long weekend, summer vacationers flock to Krzętle to escape the hustle and bustle and breathe fresh air.
Here, the rhythm of life is dictated by the seasons. In winter, Mr. Józek organizes sleigh rides for guests from the city. In spring, the fields need to be plowed and sown. In summer, work continues with harvesting and haymaking. In autumn, bonfires and family potato roasts add to the joy of the harvest.
"A Year in the Country" contains twelve spreads exploring farm life. We'll learn about the responsibilities of children and adults, and what it's like to work in the fields and with animals. Two additional panels introduce the characters and provide interactive play.
